I presumed that Bioprogress under the JV with Crescent Pharma would be making and marketing the generic versions of Simvastatin and Nsaids. However, it is possible that Bioprogress would be using WaferTab (for example) to help extend the patent life of say, Simvastatin, by the change of dosage delivery system to one of Dissolve-In-The-Mouth (DITM). This is marketed as Zocor by Merck & Co.
But this Zocor is now coming off patent in 2006 and will be a generic drug. Also, there is some competition out there from other generic companies in marketing and selling simvastatin. I would've thought that the JV with Cresent Pharma would be for manufacturing and marketing the drugs themselves, rather than selling just some Wafertab machines to Merck & Co.
