I cannot square this circle. One is damned if one does and damned if one doesn't. Buy in and be accused of pump and dump. Stay out and be accused of not putting money where the mouth is. What's the most ethical position for someone writing about companies?
My opinion. It's clear cut. You should absolutely not be trading in shares. You have set yourself up as an advisor and give advice on whether to buy or sell, so it is unethical for you to be trading in those same shares yourself.
This is not to attack your integrity. But if you wish to invest in, as well as write about shares, you should do so by some form of blind trust whereby you have no say in the selection or timing of trades.
