African Diamonds Annual Report – Review of Operations Pages 7 and 8
This year twelve holes have been drilled into the 5.1 ha kimberlite AK8 (Figure 4). Ten of these holes were 6.5 inch (165mm) percussion holes (drilled for delineation purposes) and two were 23-inch LDD holes (drilled in order to make a preliminary assessment of the economic potential of the kimberlite and to decide if further work is required).
Bulk samples were treated on site using the De Beers-inch mobile DMS plant (Figure 5) and diamond recovery was carried out at the GEMDL, Johannesburg. A total of 152 macro-diamonds (+1mm) weighing 11.31 carats have been recovered from 306 in situ tons of sample. Results from the bulk samples have been received and preliminary models indicate grades between 4 and 8 cpht for the north lobe and between 9 and 16 cpht for the southern lobe.
03 May 2005 - Exploration Update from the Botswana JV with De Beers
The board of African Diamonds plc is pleased to report the recent results from bulk sample drilling on the AK8 kimberlite pipe in the Orapa area of Botswana.
AK8 is one of 30 known kimberlites being explored by De Beers as part of the Boteti Exploration Joint Venture between African Diamonds and De Beers. Pipe AK8 is now estimated from ground geophysics at around 6 hectares in size.
Fifty-four stones weighing a total of 6.33 carats including one 2.26-carat stone, were recovered from the 98 tonnes extracted from four holes in the kimberlite using 12-inch drilling.
1. The 12” holes (4 of them) were announced on 03 May 2005 but excluded from the Annual report. ??
2. Average grade from all the drilling results at AK8 is 4.271 cpht with an average stone size of 0.086 carats per stone. LDD005 is presumably located in the southern lobe (Figure 4 and Figure 4 not clear at all) with LDD006 in the north lobe. Difficult to envisage any modelling that gets from 6.286 cpht to 9-16 cpht and 2.243 cpht to 4-8 cpht.
