MOSCOW (AFX) - Gazprom said it agreed to buy up to 30 bln cu m of gas from Turkmenistan during 2006 for 65 usd per 1,000 cu m.
Some 15 bln cu m will be delivered in the first quarter alone, the Russian gas giant said in a statement.
Negotiations between the company and the Turkmen government on 2006 pricing were broken off earlier this month, after Turkmen President Saparmurat Niyazov unilaterally announced he would impose a rise of 37 pct to 60 usd.
Gazprom needs Turkmen gas to insure it meets its export commitments.
In a parallel development, Gazprom has threatened to cut off its supplies to Ukraine - and thence to the West - if no deal on price hikes is reached with Kiev by Jan 1. The Russian and Ukrainian governments remain embroiled over the issue.
