Alftupper...Very briefly. Quotient have been developing a HbA1c test for a few years now, and as I see it they 'already' have significant competition from existing and indeed 'up and coming automated' A1c tests not to mention the manual A1c tests ie NycoCard and Glycosal. They recieved a fresh round a funding back in the summer -

It is worth clicking the demo (again a cartoon), and noting that the Physician or nurse etc has a number of steps that also invlove a shake and mix element. Anyway the Quotient technology might well become a test/device reality (they have been suggesting that for quite a while though), and the A1c market is experiencing and will continue to experience good growth, and there is 'probably' enough business for a 'single' test to get a 'small' slice. However, I am firmly of the opinion that the multi-assay aspect will take the lion's share at POC, cue Afinion.
