2003 - The Year of BBG
terry91 - Wed, 01 Jan 03 :
First off I do not hold watched this bugger sence 3p ish offer got burnt on it a few weeks before so held out and am glad to see normal punters making money on this now. Worth a look at this though.
Old news but out again in todays Mail
British Bio has Fellner factor
JARVIS Hotels returned an average 39% capital gain while the market fell 27%. The shares rose from 85 1/2p to 105p, and 40% were bought back at 137 1/2p.You also got 6p dividends.
This year I am going for British Biotech at 3p. It has 19p liquid assets and the new management is seeking deals.
It has £43m cash, 6.3p a share, and a tax shelter worth 12p a share if it is taken over. The 1990s disasters have left £290m past losses which a buyer can set off against its own profits, saving £82m. Chief executive Tim Edwards confirms the details.
Operations are losing money. But Peter Fellner, from Celltech, has just joined as chairman.
This suggests Bio's research has value, and that deals will be done. A source says: 'Peter knows the industry better than anyone, and is ruthless. If he's on board, something's up.'
Oddly, my second-choice tip usually does better. This year I nearly went for black vodka distiller Blavod (31p). Capitalised at £4.5m, it has £1m cash.
