Stream Group started life in 1997 providing a premium rate psychic phone hotline. That business now provides the bedrock for a profitable company that provides content for both fixed line and mobile phones.
Even in an uncertain technology world there are some things the industry agrees on and one of them is that 2004 will be the year of mobile data. Stream provides everything from bog-standard applications such as a phoney girlfriend text chat service, and SMS dating to a downloadable slot-machine betting game.
The company has also perfected the technology to stream video content over the current generation of mobile phones. Stream is not a company that relies on 3G technology for its business model to take off, nor does it have to do deals with the major mobile networks. Its products are already out there and being used, backed by strong marketing partners.
Stream's broker went round institutions in November and they obviously liked what they saw - its stock has since picked up 10p. But at just 25p there is still plenty of upside.
