$ILLR: It’s Official: Triller Has Become the Go-To Replacement for Users Fleeing TikTok in Light of the Pending Ban
Triller, a company started in 2019 by Ryan Kavanaugh and Bobby Sarnevesht, is known for making big headlines. In 2020, the startup made headlines for producing the highest-grossing digital PPV of all time with Tyson V Jones. Triller also brought fledgling YouTuber Jake Paul from the doldrums of the YouTube graveyard to the forefront of all combat sports. Moreover, “Triller had just become the only app to ever hit number one in 80 countries” thanks to then-President Trump announcing an imminent ban of TikTok. It was clear the world had decided that if a TikTok ban was going to happen, Triller was the go-to replacement app. However, the ban never materialized, but the headlines did.
Triller became known as the “smash-mouth marketing” social app that broke with all conventional norms, and that clearly didn’t stop. Triller’s Chairman, Bobby Sarnevesht, revealed that Triller has launched a seamless solution for users to migrate their content from TikTok to Triller via the domain transfertiktok.com, and they have been planning this move for over a year now. Now that the US Government, across virtually every division of security, has pointed out that TikTok is, in fact, spyware of the Chinese Communist Party, the ban is imminent. “This is our coming-out party. Transfer your TikTok account now at transfertiktok.com,” said Sarnevesht. “While everyone is talking about the spy balloons China keeps putting above us, perhaps they should focus on the spy balloon they are currently holding, no longer a rumor, a proven fact.”
The Triller app is more than just a TikTok replacement. Triller’s open-garden system ensures that creators receive more than 70% of the money in the influencer ecosystem. Triller’s proprietary AI toolset also ensures that creators can monetize their content fully on other social networks like Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, and Twitter. The closed-garden system of TikTok, which only allows creators to reach a fraction of their audience unless TikTok is paid by the creator or keeps the majority of the revenue from the brand, is not present on Triller, making Triller a more attractive option for content creators looking to monetize their content. Triller seems to be TikTok’s replacement, ban or no ban, as it offers everything TikTok has but much more by way of monetization. Sarnevesht stated, “Last time around, people wanted us to just be a TikTok replacement, and we tried to be that as it led us to becoming the number one app in the world. We weren’t going to fight it. The reality is while we certainly have all the functionality they do, but we do a lot of things they don’t, and that is the most important part of Triller. This time we’re doing it our way, ban or no ban, we are the TikTok replacement. We aren’t trying to trap creators and make money by taking it from their pockets, quite the opposite. We want to encourage them to go to all platforms and help them monetize better everywhere. We’ve spent the last year with the world’s best engineers making Triller the best it can be. Anyone who hasn’t played with Triller recently will be pleasantly surprised.”
Now that the TikTok ban is imminent, Triller has opened up the portal transfertiktok.com, which is a one-click process for users to migrate their TikTok account onto Triller, content and all, and if a user has more than 500,000 users on TikTok, they can even migrate their same screen name. Triller has seen a surge in new signups as the ban seems to become more imminent daily and has crossed the mark of over 500 million registered users.
The closed-garden system used by social media networks such as TikTok takes away most of the money from creators. Less than 1% of the over 500 billion dollars spent annually in the creator economy goes to the creators, while the social media networks take 99% of the earnings. This is a problem that not only exists on TikTok but across all social networks like Instagram, Twitter, Snap, and YouTube.
Triller, on the other hand, operates under an “open-garden” system where more than 70% of the money in the influencer ecosystem goes to the creators. Triller ensures that their proprietary AI and toolset does the same for creators on other social networks.
One of the key features of the Triller ecosystem is its AI, which comes by way of an acquisition it did in 2021 of amplify.ai, which sits across the entire Triller ecosystem. Amplify has been embedded in Facebook, Google, Instagram, YouTube, Snap, Twitter, and many other social networks for a few years now. This means that Triller’s AI is already embedded in all of the large social media networks, and creators only need to access it. It has enabled over 20 billion conversations across ½ a billion users, effectively making it the preeminent AI among social media.
Triller also acquired and integrated Julius, one of the world’s largest influencer brand portals, which tracks over 2.5 million influencers across every major platform and connects them with the 25,000 brands it has signed up. By doing so, Triller can shed light on the economics of a closed-garden system and help creators monetize their content fully, connecting the brands and the influencers one on one. By joining Triller, you are automatically part of all of Triller brand and creator products. “It’s an eBay for brands and influencers to connect, plan campaigns and build with no middlemen,” said Sarvnevesht.
Triller’s open-garden system and its deep tools disrupt the walled garden system that other social media networks like TikTok have forced their influencers and creators to live in. This means that Triller’s system and model are already disrupting the current social media landscape, and it’s clear that big tech and social media do not like it. “They use their media voices and press control to try and bash Triller at every stop. We just laugh at it. Every time they write a bad article, we know we must have gotten under their skin or are hitting too close to home, as they only attack if they are scared,” said Sarnevesht.
With Triller’s open-garden system, creators will no longer be held hostage by social media networks, and the economics of the current system will no longer be imbalanced. Triller is the only major social media platform focused on giving more control to the creators and putting more money into their pockets while giving creators direct access to and control of their audience. Almost every one of the world’s top hundred plus creators has already made the switch to Triller, and hundreds of the world’s biggest celebrities are active on Triller. Those influencers and creators who are using Triller’s brand tools are already making multiples of what they make on TikTok.
It’s important to note that the AI Triller has implemented and is using has been and is currently being used by some of the largest brands in the world today and some of the largest political campaigns. When asked about value and metrics, they explain that every interaction they generate on or off the platform is the most important, as each “interaction we create is a potential monetization for the creator or influencer, and we are already generating 750 million interactions every single month,” every one of them a potential transaction for a user or creator.
Triller’s solution for seamless migration of content on TikTok shows their determination to lead the way in the new creator economy. The closed-garden system used by TikTok and other social media platforms will soon be a thing of the past as more creators and influencers move to open-garden systems like Triller. The Triller portal is open now at transfertiktok.com.
Sarnevesht concluded, “Imagine a world where your cell phone automatically switched between any and every network in the world and you get paid to use it, except for the carriers owned and controlled by the Chinese government, of course. That is Triller.”
Most recently, Triller shared that it expected to be publicly trading and has filed privately with the SEC through a direct listing S-1 under the ticker ‘illr’’
