Over 300 children from 11 schools are participating in the ADVFN Schools’ Challenge.
The aim of the stock market competition is for the children to learn about making money (and losing it) on the stock market and of course to make the most profit. There is also an opportunity for pupils and schools to win prizes.

To help promote essential, but often neglected financial education in schools, to make some money for their schools and to have a bit of fun along the way.
The children can select and enter up their stocks from Saturday 23rd May until 4.00pm on Monday 8th June, with the competition actually running from Tuesday 10th June until Friday 3rd July at 4.30pm.

Each pupil has been given £1000 worth of paper money to split evenly between five LSE-listed stocks. They will research companies and create and track their stock portfolios using ADVFN. The holding in each stock will be automatically calculated as close as possible to (but not over) a value of £200. The winner is the pupil who makes the most profit. The winning school is the one that makes the highest return averaged out over all the students. It’s that simple. There will be a daily prize for the child who makes the greatest profit each day and an overall prize for the child who makes the greatest profit over the three weeks. There is also a competition between the participating schools. The school, whose pupils make the most money, on average, will win a cash prize. This year the teachers are also taking part!
