SEATTLE, Dec. 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Nation9, a
next-generation, interactive publisher, announced today it has
launched its initial catalog of children's interactive titles. The
company was started in late 2011 and has been working on building
out its catalog of children's titles, which span non-fiction, fairy
tales and abridged classics for children ages 0-12. The titles mix
interactivity, digital animation, "read to me" and read-along
functionality for early readers. Titles published by Nation9 will
span multiple languages, including Spanish, Russian, Mandarin and
Portuguese. As of now, the majority of titles are available for the
Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD, but the company has plans to pursue
other platforms as well.
"We believe the publishing world is undergoing a great shift and
we are excited to be at the forefront of the innovation that is
occurring in this space," says Lincoln
Popp, Founder and CEO of Nation9 and father of three young
girls. Popp was a co-Founder of Akona Systems that was sold in 2008
to iSoftStone, a global consulting firm, where he resided for three
years as a Senior Vice President. "We started Nation9 because we
believe a good story can spark the imagination, create the
appreciation of learning and the love of exploration. With today's
technology, we can provide experiences that transport a young
reader to a far off land, put them at the helm of a story and have
them interact with new ideas and new concepts in a way that is
unprecedented."
In addition to publishing its own catalog of titles, Nation9
worked closely with Amazon to create a variety of unique titles for
Kindle FreeTime Unlimited— the all-you-can-eat content offering for
kids ages 3-8.
"We chose Nation9 because of their passion and ability to
connect with young audiences through a unique interactive
experience," says Nate Glissmeyer,
Director, Amazon Kindle. "They have been instrumental in helping us
create a rich catalog of content and capture the imaginations of
our young audiences."
Nation9 is building out a community of artists, writers and
musicians to create a portfolio of titles that represent a global
catalog of stories. The company's community is comprised of talent
from around the world, including Ukraine, Brazil, China, India
and Russia. The company leverages
a revenue sharing model to help teams share in the success of
titles published.
"We believe there is great power in not only surfacing new
stories and art from across the globe, but a real opportunity to
redefine how creative teams come together absent of boundaries of
geography, corporate structures or hierarchy to generate creative
outcomes that continue to push our thinking," says Popp.
The company is building out a set of tools that support a global
collaboration platform where community members from around the
globe can choose their own projects and form global creative
teams—numerous titles are in development for a 2013
production.
The company operates out of its studio in Kirkland, WA.
