The competition invited viewers to submit pizza topping ideas to
create the People's Pizza, which will be on sale at Domino's next
year. The tastiest pizza ideas were whittled down to just three by
a panel of experts including This Morning's Phil Vickery, star of The Only Way is
Essex, Mario Falcone and Domino's new product
development chef, Chris Denoven. Maria
Tyrrell was announced as the winner with her 'Chimi Chicken'
pizza today [Thursday 29, 2012] in a public vote live on This
Morning.
Featuring a combination of chicken in an Argentinean style
chimichurri marinade with yellow and red peppers, Maria's Chimi
Chicken pizza uses her family's very own authentic chimichurri
sauce recipe.
Maria Tyrrell, winner of This
Morning People's Pizza competition, said: "I am so overwhelmed,
and absolutely thrilled! I'm so excited that my Mum and Dad's sauce
is going on a pizza. Food is a massive part of my family - my
grandmother was a cordon bleu chef and my parents and brother run
an Argentine restaurant in Middlesex so I've always loved
cooking and using my Argentinean heritage in recipes. When I saw
this competition, I just had to enter."
Back in the studio, Phillip
Schofield said; "Absolutely brilliant, well done! They were
all brilliant and very tasty pizzas... So when the doorbell rings,
it'll be our pizza!"
Holly Willoughby added; "Well
done Maria! I would've been happy with any of them, but I did like
that one I have to say - that was the one I thought was the
nicest."
Simon Wallis, sales and marketing
director for Domino's Pizza, said: "We are delighted to be
supporting this competition on ITV's most iconic daytime TV show
and look forward to launching the winning entry, the People's
Pizza, in our stores next year."
