The Huangshan International Climbing Competition Draws Largest
Number of Teams and Participants on Record
HUANGSHAN, China, Nov. 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The 2012 China
Public Mountain Climbing & Bodybuilding Conference and the 8th
China Huangshan International Climbing Competition took place at
Huangshan Scenic Area, attracting more than 140 overseas
mountaineers from 40 countries around the world including the U.S.,
France, Russia, Spain, South
Korea and South Africa, and
109 teams from 15 provinces and municipalities as well 5 colleges
and universities within China. The
event set a new record both in terms of the number of teams and
number of participants with 1,360 climbers attending.

The opening ceremony was held at the southern entry point to the
scenic area. Climbers started the 12-kilometer race at the entry
point, then passed through Hot Spring, Ciguang Pavilion, Mid-hill
Temple, and Laodaokou, and terminated at the Jade Screen Pavilion.
The award ceremony was held at the renowned Guest-greeting Pine
site.
Ultimately, Ma Mingtao from the young men's team and GanXue from
the young women's team won first prize in their respective groups
with the highest overall scores. Xiao
Jie from India achieved
first place in the international men's group, while Hashimoto Chihiro from Japan came in first in her category. Jiang
Haowen was the male winner and Yi Lanlan was the female winner
among the groups that came from China's universities. In addition, Liu Qingxiu
placed first in the men's mid-age category, while Pan Mei was first
in the women's mid-age category. Yan Yuedong and Xin Mei placed first respectively in Huangshan
City men's and women's groups.
As part of the opening ceremony, Yosemite National Park (United States), Jungfrau (Switzerland), Petrified Forest of Lesvos
(Greece) and other national parks
and scenic areas around the world, as well as some domestic parks,
including Taishan, Emeishan, and Jiuzhaigou, sent their
congratulations.
This is the eighth year in a row that Huangshan has held the
China Huangshan Climbing Competition, attracting over 60 teams from
more than 50 countries and regions, including Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, as well as from the country's 30
provinces and municipalities, bringing together nearly 10,000
climbers and members of the media. The event is beneficial in many
ways to the Huangshan region.
Wang Fuhong, secretary of Huangshan Municipal Committee of the
CPC, Municipal People's Congress standing committee chairman and
first secretary of the Party committee of the Huangshan Scenic Area
Management Committee, Song Guoquan,
Party Municipal Committee deputy secretary, Huangshan City mayor,
and director of Huangshan Scenic Area Management Committee, Cheng
Yi, chairman of the Party Anhui Provincial Education Working
Committee and director of the Provincial Department of Education,
Feng Chao, director of the
Provincial Sports Bureau, Cheng Yingfeng, Party deputy secretary of
Huangshan Municipal Committee, as well as Yan Jinan, deputy director of Mountaineering
Administrative Center of General Administration of Sport of
China and vice president of China
Mountaineering Association were all present at the opening
ceremony.
The mountain climbing event was organized by the Mountaineering
Administrative Center of General Administration of Sport of
China, the China Mountaineering
Association, the Provincial Sports Bureau and the People's
government of Huangshan City, and co-held by the Huangshan Scenic
Area Management Committee, the working committee of Anhui
Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League in Zhejiang province and Huangshan Sports
Bureau.
