Social media network Facebook Inc. (FB) and Internet firm Yahoo
Inc. (YHOO) are in talks about an alliance which would allow the
two Silicon Valley-based companies to collaborate on search
functionality, the Sunday Telegraph reports, without citing
sources.
The newspaper says Yahoo's new chief executive Marissa Mayer and
Sheryl Sandberg, the chief operating officer of Facebook, both
former employees of Google Inc. (GOOG), have met to discuss closer
collaboration between the two companies.
The Sunday Telegraph says any deal to emerge from the talks
could lead to Microsoft Corp. (MSFT), which currently powers
Yahoo's search functionality, being supplanted from its
relationship with Yahoo.
U.K. representatives for Facebook couldn't immediately be
reached for comment Sunday.
