The following table lists unplanned and planned production outages at U.S. refineries as reported by Dow Jones Newswires. The information is compiled from both official and unofficial refining sources and doesn't purport to be a comprehensive list.

A hydrocracker at ExxonMobil's 152,000 barrel-a-day refinery in Torrance, Calif., is in restart mode after being taken offline on Nov. 3, for repairs, according to traders and marketers doing business with the company. ExxonMobil wouldn't comment on the restart.

An unplanned emission event took place the morning of Nov. 9, at the 250,000 barrel-a-day Motiva refinery in St. Charles, La, due to blocked valves, according to the U.S. National Response Center. It wasn't known which unit was affected.

An unplanned flaring event and unspecified unit shut down took place on Nov. 9, at Tesoro Corp's 165,000 barrel-a-day Martinez, Calif., refinery due to a vapor leak, according to a local government filing. No product shortages were evident, according to Tesoro spokeswoman Tina Barbee.

A refining unit was upset on Nov. 8 at the 362,000 barrel-a-day Wood River, Illinois, refinery owned and operated by Phillips66/Cenovus, according to a local government agency. It wasn't known which unit was affected.

An unplanned flaring event took place on Nov. 8 and 9 at the Air Products hydrogen plant in Carson, Calif., according to the South Coast Air Quality Management District. It was the second unplanned event at the facility during the week.

A coker has been restarted at Tesoro's 166,000 barrel-a-day refinery in Martinez, Calif., according to a Oct 31, filing with the Contra Costa County Health Department Hazardous Materials Department. The unit had been down since Oct. 21, according to traders doing business with the company, but calls to Tesoro weren't returned.

Phillips 66 (PSX) on Nov. 7 said planned flaring would take place at its 140,000 barrel-a-day Carson, Calif., refinery between Nov. 10-23. The flaring isn't associated with equipment breakdown, the filing to government regulators said.

Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM) said on Nov. 7 it plans to restart a flexicoker unit, shut since Sept. 11 to repair a heat exchanger, at its Baytown, Texas, refinery in a few weeks. An exact restart timing isn't yet available. The company originally said the maintenance would take several weeks to be completed.

Valero Energy (VLO) on Nov. 7 said a restart estimate for the return to service of an FCCU its 293,000 barrel-a-day Port Arthur, Texas, wasn't yet available. The unit shut unplanned following a pump fire on Nov. 3.

CVR Energy (CVI) on Nov. 7 said turnaround work at its Wynnewood, Okla., refinery has been extended by five to 10 days to 50-55 days, from Sept 29 when a blast occurred. One worker died in that explosion.

Hess Corp. on Nov. 6 said a restart estimate for the restart of its 70,000 barrel-per-day refinery in Port Reading, N.J., isn't available. Damage assessment can't be completed until full commercial power is restored; partial power was restored earlier in the week. The plant was shut in advance of Hurricane Sandy on Oct. 29.

Alon USA Energy (ALJ) on Nov. 6 said it is suspending operations at its California refineries because of low demand for the asphalt produced there and the high cost of West Coast crudes. The company awaits permits to bring in lighter crude varieties from the mid-continent region and to build infrastructure, which should be done by the fourth quarter of 2013.

Marathon Petroleum Corp. (MPC) on Nov. 6 said it had restarted its newly expanded 120,000-barrel-a-day refinery in Detroit, finishing a project to increase greatly the amount of Canadian crude oil the refinery processes. Most all other units had also been brought back online and are producing finished products.

Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM) on Nov. 6 said flaring on Nov. 5 reported to government regulators by its Joliet Refinery in Channahon, Ill., was caused by equipment malfunction. No other details were provided.

Motiva (RDSA, RDSB) on Nov. 6 said its 325,000 barrels-a-day refinery expansion project is on track for "early next year" completion. The refinery's new CDU unit was idled for repairs mere days after being commissioned in May and is still undergoing repairs.

PBF Energy on Nov. 5 said emissions took place at its 180,000 barrel-a-day refinery in Paulsboro, NJ, according to state regulators. The event was caused by the malfunction of an analyzer.

BP PLC (BP BP.LN) on Nov. 4 said an ultracracker was taken out of service its 475,000 barrel-a-day Texas City, Tx., refinery on the back of a malfunction that caused an emissions release, according to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

Valero Energy (VLO) on Nov. 4 said a flaring event took place at its 160,000 barrel-a-day refinery in Houston, Texas, due to ongoing planned maintenance at an FCCU, a filing to the Texas Commmission on Environmental Quality said.

Alon USA Energy (ALJ) on Nov. 2 said work on a crude unit boiler and a fluid catalytic cracking unit at its 69,000 barrel-a-day refinery in Big Spring, Texas, created an emissions event on Nov. 2 a filing government regulators said.. It wasn't known when the work would be completed.

Philadelphia Energy Solutions (PES, CG) on Nov. 2 said its 330,000 barrel-a-day refinery in Philadelphia was operating normally though at modestly reduced throughputs due to delayed seaborne crude shipments.

PBF Energy Inc. on Nov. 2 said its East Coast refineries in Delaware and New Jersey are operating at normal rates after having been reduced ahead of Hurricane Sandy as a precaution.

BP Plc. (BP.LN) said Oct. 31 that it is about to start a major project at its refinery in Whiting, Ind. that will temporarily halve output at the 405,000 barrel-a-day plant. The largest of three crude units will be shut for replacement. The work will conclude in the second-half of 2013, as previously announced.
