The Japanese yen extended previous session's downtrend against other major currencies on Monday morning in New York as traders seek safe-haven currencies after the worse-than-expected Chicago PMI release for April.

As of 9:52 am ET, the yen was trading at 79.95 against the dollar, 129.95 against the pound, 83.32 against the Australian dollar, 81.05 versus the Canadian dollar, 65.52 against the NZ dollar, 88.08 against the Swiss franc and 105.80 against the euro.



NYSE and AMEX quotes are delayed by at least 20 minutes.
