The U.S. consumer price index for January is due for release at 8:30 am ET Friday. Before the data, the dollar showed mixed trading against other major currencies. While the dollar rose against the yen, it fell against the franc and the euro. Against the pound, the dollar moved sideways.

At 8:25 am ET, the greenback was worth 1.5840 against the pound, 79.34 against the yen, 0.9181 against the franc and 1.3165 against the euro.
