NYSE Composite Index

There are over 2,000 stocks listed on the NYSE Composite which are all common stock listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Of that 2,000, over 1,600 are from the United States and there are more then 360 foreign listings as well. Using a value of 5,000 points and a market-value weighted number of shares listed for each issue, the NYSE composite uses a free-float market cap weighting.

This NYSE Composite has outperformed the Dow Jones Industrial Average, NASDAQ Composite and S&P 500 in 2004, 2005, and 2006. Along with the overall composite, there are separate indices for industrial, transportation, utility, and financial corporations. The NYSE Composite it continuously computed and point changes are converted into dollar amounts.
