China Southern Airlines Co. (1055.HK) and its 51%-owned unit Xiamen Airlines Co. have agreed to buy 110 aircraft from Boeing Co. (BA) for $10.1 billion, as the Chinese carrier looks to boost its capacity amid the nation's robust air-travel demand.

Guangzhou-based China Southern Air, the nation's biggest airline by fleet size, said in a Thursday filing it plans to buy 30 B737NG series aircraft and 50 B737 MAX series aircraft, and sell 16 used Boeing jets and certain spare parts to the aircraft manufacturer.

China Southern said the list prices for the B737NG series aircraft and B737 MAX series aircraft are $81.16 million and $96.07 million each, respectively, adding that it will get large discounts for the bulk purchase.

The aircraft will be delivered in stages to China Southern from 2017 to 2021, it said.

The carrier's unit, Xiamen Airlines, plans to buy 30 B737MAX series aircraft from Boeing at a list price of $96.1 million each. The airline will also swap the nine B737 jets it acquired in 2012 with Boeing's newer B737 MAX series aircraft, it said.
