International stocks trading in New York closed higher Tuesday, with the Bank of New York index of American depositary receipts adding 0.7% to 148.11. The European index rose 0.8% to 149.24, the Asian index edged up 0.2% to 140.42, the Latin American index climbed 1.7% to 253.64 and the emerging markets index added 1.2% to 261.15. Among the companies with shares that actively traded was Yingli Green Energy Holding Co. (YGE).

Chinese solar company Yingli reported a fourth-quarter loss that was wider than analysts had feared and revenue missed expectations, in contrast to what other solar companies have been reporting of late. Shares fell 8.3% to $5.41.

Barclays PLC (BCS, BARC.LN) on Tuesday said it gave GBP32 million ($53.2 million) in shares to a dozen of its top executives, including a GBP3.8 million pay award to Chief Executive Antony Jenkins, amid a growing controversy with shareholders over its pay practices. Shares of the U.K.-based bank rose 2% to $15.85.

Shares of South African gold miners ended lower. Drdgold Ltd. (DRD, DRD.JO) fell 4% to $4.12, Harmony Gold Mining Co. (HMY, HAR.JO) dropped 1.9% to $3.53, Gold Fields Ltd. (GFI, GFI.JO) declined 0.5% to $4.10, and AngloGold Ashanti Ltd. (AU, ANG.JO) edged down 0.3% to $19.00.
