(XOM) said Thursday that a contractor passed away at its Chalmette, La., refinery the previous evening, but that the cause is unknown. It is not know whether this is tied to a pipe leak the plant detected Monday evening. Repairs for this line are ongoing. Exxon's Joliet refinery shut a diesel hydrotreater after a compressor fire Tuesday evening. Continuing issues at refineries owned by Tesoro Corp. (TSO) in Martinez, Calif., and Anacortes, Wash., caused spot West Coast gasoline prices to rise further. It is unclear when the Anacortes refinery, shut after a deadly blast in early April, will be restarted, but market sources indicated that the restart is delayed for another 10 days. Traders say there are operational issues at the Martinez plant. Chevron Corp.'s (CVX) refinery in Salt Lake City has resumed normal operations after performing unplanned work on a crude unit, a company spokesman said Wednesday. ConocoPhillips (COP) reported flaring at its Rodeo, Calif., oil refinery because of a shutdown of a hydrogen plant operated by a third party Wednesday, according to a filing with state environmental regulators. Flint Hills Resources LP's refinery in Corpus Christi, Texas, will shut Monday a hydrocracker located at its West Plant to perform maintenance, according to a filing with state environmental regulators. Last Friday, Flint Hills shut multiple units at the East Plant of the Corpus Christi refinery after a system malfunction. The company did not disclose which units were impacted.
