PARSIPPANY, N.J., Dec. 17,
2015 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of its ongoing commitment to
sustainability, Wyndham Worldwide (NYSE: WYN), one of the world's
largest hospitality companies, received New Jersey's 2015 Governor's Environmental
Excellence Award (GEEA), in the Healthy and Sustainable Businesses
category for its innovative and sustainable practices at its
headquarters location in Parsippany,
NJ. This is the first time the Company has received the
award.
"At Wyndham Worldwide, we believe we have a responsibility to
operate sustainably, and this commitment starts right at our
corporate campus in New Jersey,"
said Faith Taylor, senior vice
president, corporate social responsibility, Wyndham Worldwide. "We
consider everything when it comes to doing what's right for our
people, our planet and the places we operate, but also what is good
for our bottom line. The workplace experience we provide
associates, and the sustainable and energy efficient practices we
have in place not only minimize our carbon footprint, but also keep
our operating costs low, and help us attract and retain the best
people to run our business."
The GEEA program recognizes outstanding environmental
performance, program and projects throughout the state. The award
honor individuals, businesses, institutions, communities,
organizations, educators, youths and others who have made
significant contributions to environmental protection in New
Jersey. Since its establishment in 2000, 130 GEEA winners
have been recognized for their accomplishments.
"When it comes to energy efficiency, we are constantly
challenging the status quo and ensuring we always research and
analyze any new products, programs or operational systems
available. No win is too small," said Frank
Campana, senior vice president, corporate real estate and
facilities. "As we like to say, being green is literally 'built in'
to Wyndham Worldwide and a critical piece of our company-wide
strategy. This latest success is rooted in our team approach, and
is accomplished through hard work, collaboration and passion."
The Wyndham Worldwide headquarters buildings have received the
U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and
Environmental Design (LEED) designations for Corporate Interiors
and Existing Building – Operations and Maintenance.
Throughout the entire design and construction of the campus
buildings, Wyndham Worldwide incorporated specific strategies and
features that resulted in significant energy savings.
Additional sustainability initiatives include:
- Participating in the local Demand Response program which
involves reducing electrical demand during high use periods,
therefore lowering the stress on the energy grid.
- Installing complimentary vehicle charging stations to promote
the use of electric vehicles among associates.
- Transitioning existing fluorescent lamp light fixtures to LED
lamps and installing motion sensors to control more than 250 light
fixtures. This will result in an annual energy reduction of 243,704
KWh.
- Conducting a waste stream audit to identify any and all
opportunities for increased waste diversion. Results showed that
the buildings exceed industry averages with a combined diversion
rate of 61 percent.
- Establishing a community garden to grow organic produce that
was donated to local food banks. Community garden?
A recognized leader in sustainability, the Wyndham Worldwide
campus was recently named one of New
Jersey's most energy efficient office buildings. Wyndham
Worldwide earned 99 out of 100 for the U.S. Environmental

a distinction it shares with just one other office building in the
state. This achievement also places its corporate offices among the
top three percent of the most efficient buildings in the nation.
Also, the Company was recognized for its outstanding achievements
in implementing programs that provide and promote commuting
alternatives for its associates, such as its shuttle bus to and
from the Morris Plains train
station and its New Jersey Transit bus stop at its corporate office

quality.
