Enterprise Product Partners LP (EPD) approached Williams Cos. (WMB) this summer about an potential acquisition, Reuters reported Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The report said the approach took place after Energy Transfer Equity LP (ETE) terminated its deal with Williams. The termination was announced in late June.

Williams shares rose 7.9% to $28.11.
