SOUTHFIELD, Mich., March 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon
Wireless, a technology leader with the nation's largest and most
reliable 4G LTE network, announced today that the company is
partnering with Techweek, the nation's leading technology
conference, for an Emerging Cities Summit as part of Techweek
Detroit 2015 from April 13 to April 19. Verizon Wireless
Region President Lauren-Love Wright,
a Detroit native, made the
announcement at Verizon's regional headquarters in Metro Detroit
and will also keynote the summit.
"Detroit's success today is
driven by those who are using technology and ingenuity to solve
everyday challenges," said Lauren
Love-Wright, Verizon Wireless region president for
Michigan, Indiana, and Kentucky. "Verizon is dedicated to being a
strong partner within Detroit's
technology community, and to investing in its continued growth.
Partnering with the city's largest technology conference is a
natural extension of this ongoing commitment."
"Our mission is to build a better world through tech
entrepreneurship," said Sam Kennedy,
executive director at Techweek. "Techweek Detroit brings together
tech leaders and innovators who are rebuilding the city. Partners
like Verizon help illustrate more than just the good momentum
throughout Michigan's
entrepreneurial community—at Techweek, you will be able to see the
tangible results from Verizon's work with tech companies in the
region, especially in the Internet of Things space."
Among the conference's multifaceted offerings, Verizon is
presenting a summit designed to focus on the ways technology can
enhance and strengthen municipal operations, with an overview of
Verizon's Smart Cities solutions. These technologies utilize
real-time information and analytics to develop strategies to
improve infrastructure, plan for long-term growth, create more
energy-efficient environments, and keep people safe. Additionally,
Love-Wright will provide the keynote address for the Emerging
Cities Summit, which will explore how the technology industry is
leading the way to support cities like Detroit in its resurgence as an economic and
cultural center for the region.
In the past year, Verizon has invested $100 million in wireless network improvements for
key parts of Detroit. Overall,
Verizon has spent $2.7 billion on
wireless network investments in Michigan since 2000. Verizon continues to
add extra capacity in high-traffic parts of Detroit, including
both XLTE and small cell deployments to offer customers a stronger
network experience. XLTE delivers faster peak data speeds and
a minimum of double the bandwidth to 4G LTE customers.
Verizon regularly tests, maintains and fine-tunes the network to
ensure that customers stay connected. The Verizon network test
drive team is one of the largest of its kind of any U.S. wireless
company. Every year, dedicated test men and women drive
roughly 1 million miles – including Detroit – in specially equipped vehicles to
conduct more than 3 million voice call attempts and more than 12
million data tests across the country to compare the performance of
the Verizon Wireless network with our competitors' networks.
