Valero Energy Corp. said production was reduced at its refinery in Houston after some type of problem occurred.

"Upset occurred within the refinery resulting in excess emissions from the flare and sulfur unit at the facility," Valero said in a filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. "Refinery production was reduced and the sulfur unit was safely de-pressured to the flare."

The emissions began and ended Tuesday at the 100,000-barrel-a-day refinery, Valero said in the statement.
