SAO PAULO -(Dow Jones)- Brazil's mobile-phone subscriptions increased to 227 million in September, up 1.49% from August, according to figures released over the weekend by telecommunications regulator Anatel. New subscriptions in September totaled 3.3 million. Telecomunicacoes de Sao Paulo SA (VIV), or Vivo, maintained market leadership in September, with a 29.49% share. Vivo is controlled by Spain's Telefonica SA (TEF). TIM Participacoes SA (TCSL4.BR) was second with a 26.04% market share. TIM is the local unit of Telecom Italia SpA (TIT.MI).
