SÃO PAULO -- Brazilian mining giant Vale SA saw a widespread increase in the production of its main materials, in the third quarter.

Vale, the world's largest iron-ore mining company, on Thursday said it produced 92.09 million tons of iron-ore in the July-to-September period, up 1.5% from a year earlier. Compared with the second-quarter, the company's production of iron ore increased 6.1%.

Vale's output of nickel -- of which it is also the world's largest producer -- rose 6.1% in the third-quarter to 76,000 metric tons. Production of copper was up 12.2% in the quarter at 101,400 tons.

Meanwhile, the company's coal output increased 13.2% in the quarter to 2.3 million tons.
