MINNEAPOLIS, May 10, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Valspar is providing $400,000 in cash and product donations to support Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity in 2016. With this donation, Valspar has reached the 100,000 donated gallons milestone to help low-income families, seniors and veterans in the Twin Cities area.

Employees from Valspar and Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity gather at Valspar's headquarters in downtown Minneapolis to celebrate the start of Valspar's National Neighborhood Week, May 9 - 14, 2016. Nationwide, more than 500 employees from Valspar's 30 U.S. locations are volunteering with Habitat organizations during National Neighborhood Week. In addition to volunteers, Valspar is providing $2.5 million in cash and product donations to support 51 Habitat organizations.

"Valspar is a valued partner that has activated its partnership with Twin Cities Habitat on every level possible," said Susan Haigh, Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity CEO. "On behalf of so many families who have benefited from Valspar's sustained generosity, we say thank you."

To mark the start of the 2016 painting and home improvement season, Valspar is partnering with Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity to help families in need of decent, affordable housing and to strengthen communities through Valspar's National Neighborhood Week, May 9-14. From Wednesday through Saturday, Valspar employees will be painting and making minor repairs on a St. Paul home owned by a senior citizen who is a foster mom to four children. Because of the homeowner's physical challenges and low monthly fixed income, she has been unable to keep up with regular home maintenance.

"Valspar's National Neighborhood Week is about rolling up our sleeves and rolling on a fresh coat of paint to improve communities in which we operate," said Kimberly Welch, Valspar Vice President of Communications and Chair of The Valspar Foundation. "Our employee volunteers are excited to contribute to Habitat's mission — helping families in need of decent, affordable housing."

Nationwide, more than 500 employees from Valspar's 30 U.S. locations are volunteering with Habitat organizations during National Neighborhood Week. In addition to volunteers, Valspar is providing $2.5 million in cash and product donations to support 51 Habitat organizations, including Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity.

Valspar and Twin Cities Habitat partnered in 1998 to create A Brush with Kindness, a paint and repair program that has since been replicated by hundreds of Habitat organizations across the country. With the paint donated for the St. Paul home this week, it will bring Valspar past 100,000 gallons of paint donated to Twin Cities Habitat since the partnership began nearly two decades ago. That's enough paint to cover 40 million square feet, or the equivalent of nearly 700 football fields. Valspar donates paint for every Habitat home built, repaired or refurbished in the United States. Since 2002, the company has provided more than 2.5 million gallons to Habitat and helped over 15,000 families through A Brush with Kindness.
