MINNEAPOLIS, March 14, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Valspar Corporation's extraordinary week of Habitat news and activities continues at the Valspar Championship, an official PGA TOUR event at Innisbrook Resort. At the Valspar Color Experience, an interactive area located behind the 18th green, Valspar Championship attendees have the opportunity to help Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas County receive up to $15,000 of additional support from Valspar. For every putt made at the "Valspar Putt for Habitat Challenge," Valspar will donate $5.

For the second year since its sponsorship of the Valspar Championship, Valspar again joined forces with Habitat for Humanity and the PGA TOUR Wives Association. This year, a new neighborhood park, "Chameleon Commons," named in honor of the colorful Valspar mascot, was officially unveiled in the Stevens Creek community of Habitat homes in Clearwater, Florida. Larry Morgan, left, Chair of the Copperhead Charities, and Les Ireland (right) Valspar Executive Vice President and President, Global Consumer Paint cut the dedication ribbon to officially open the park. The park is a gift made possible by proceeds from the 2014 Valspar Championship.

For the second year since its sponsorship of the Valspar Championship, Valspar again joined forces with Habitat Pinellas and the PGA TOUR Wives Association. This year, a new neighborhood park was donated to the Stevens Creek community of homes that Habitat volunteers have been erecting the past few years in Clearwater, Florida. With a cut of a ribbon, "Chameleon Commons," named in honor of the colorful Valspar mascot, was officially unveiled. The park is a gift made possible by proceeds from last year's Valspar Championship.

Following the park dedication, Valspar executives and PGA TOUR Wives brought the transformative power of color to life through their volunteer painting at two homes in the Stevens Creek neighborhood. To date, Valspar has donated 13,000 gallons paint for the more than 200 Habitat homes built in Pinellas County.

Valspar is committed to helping transform every house into a home by providing paint for all Habitat homes built in the United States.

On March 11, 2015, Valspar announced a new five-year pledge of $36 million in paint and funding to Habitat for Humanity. The pledge includes a $2 million contribution from the Valspar Corporation Foundation. Valspar donated more than $6 million in paint and $350,000 to support Habitat's affordable housing work in 2015, and anticipates maintaining this level of support through 2019.

"Valspar is proud to provide volunteers, paint and funding to assist Habitat affiliates with the construction, repair and rehabilitation of decent, safe and affordable housing," said Gary E. Hendrickson, Valspar CEO and Chairman. "Valspar's long-standing partnership with Habitat has helped transform and improve communities across this nation. Neighborhoods matter and we're on it."

As Habitat's national paint partner, Valspar provided Habitat affiliates with 2.2 million gallons of paint by the end of 2014, bringing total cash and paint donations to more than $60 million since 2002.

About Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas County

Since 1985, Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas County has constructed 322 homes for struggling families in Pinellas County, using locally raised funds. Volunteers and the future homeowners construct the homes, which are sold at no profit and financed with a zero-interest loan. Habitat Pinellas homeowner candidates earn 30 to 80 percent of area median income. For Pinellas County, that translates to as little as $22,500 a year for a family of four. Candidates must also demonstrate need for adequate shelter; ability to pay back a zero-interest loan and willingness to partner with Habitat Pinellas to invest 250 to 350 sweat equity hours. Mortgage monies are used to build even more homes, making each donation to Habitat a perpetual legacy to the community. Habitat believes that home ownership contributes to family stability, leading in turn to community stability. Additionally, Habitat Pinellas raises funds through their ReStore, a home improvement outlet where donated household and building items are sold to the public.
