Delivery companies including FedEx Corp. (FDX) and United Parcel
Service (UPS), have had issues with foreign deliveries to
individual customers in Russia over stricter government paperwork
requirements, Reuters reported Thursday.
The report said FedEx temporarily suspended foreign shipments to
individual customers. A FedEx spokesman told The Wall Street
Journal that the company "complies with all customs regulations for
international shipments" and emphasized that the temporary
suspension applies only to shipments to individuals. The spokesman
referred further questions to the Russian customs authorities.
DHL Worldwide Express Inc. said it will suspend shipments of
products for personal use to Russia from Jan. 27, Reuters reported.
DHL said an expanded list of required documents has significantly
slowed down the customs process, Reuters reported.
A DHL spokeswoman told the Journal that due to "recent changes
in customs procedures," the company is unable to process dutiable
shipments to private addresses "with the appropriate level of
service and speed," and DHL has suspended the import of dutiable
shipments for private individuals.
A spokeswoman for UPS told the Journal that the company has
experienced "significant delays" in its deliveries of packages to
private individuals in Russia, but hasn't suspended its deliveries.
However, she said UPS is evaluating whether to do so. She said
commercial shipments to businesses and document shipments to
individuals have not been affected.
