Unilever U.S. Earns 100 percent on Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Fourteenth Annual Scorecard on LGBT Workplace Equality

Unilever U.S. proudly announced that it received a perfect score of 100 percent on the 2017 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), a national benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices related to LGBT workplace equality, administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. Unilever U.S. joins the ranks of 517 major U.S. businesses which also earned top marks this year.

“Unilever U.S. is honored to be recognized for a ninth straight year by the Human Rights Campaign, and we are extremely proud to uphold our perfect score of 100 percent on the CEI,” said Mike Clementi, Unilever North America Vice President of Human Resources. “As an organization, we work hard to provide an environment where all employees feel valued, included and bring their personal passions to the workplace. We believe an inclusive workplace is critical to our growth as a company.”

Unilever supports the LGBT community through its diversity and inclusion initiatives including the Ad Council’s “Love Has No Labels” campaign, purpose-driven brands, such as Ben & Jerry’s and Dove, and support at various pride marches. Unilever’s PRIDE Group (People Respecting Individuality, Diversity and Equality) is an LGBT Business Resource Group open to all Unilever employees that share a common goal of endorsing respect, individuality, diversity and equality throughout the organization. Unilever offers employee benefits including gender affirmation surgery, hormone therapy, egg freezing, in vitro fertilization, adoption assistance and equal medical coverage for same-gender partners.

The 2017 CEI rated 1,043 businesses in the report, which evaluates LGBT-related policies and practices including non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, competency programs, and public engagement with the LGBT community. Unilever U.S.’s efforts in satisfying all of the CEI’s criteria results in a 100 percent ranking and the designation as a Best Place to Work for LGBT Equality.
