LONDON--Unilever PLC (ULVR.LN) said Monday it is buying REN Skincare for an undisclosed sum.

The food, home and personal care products firm, which houses Persil, Dove, Hellmann's and Wall's ice cream among its portfolio, said it expects to close the acquisition in May, subject to customary regulatory approvals.

Created in 2000 by Antony Buck and Robert Calcraft, REN pioneered a new type of high performance skin care. The brand is today sold in 50 countries and sold predominantly in specialty stores and pharmacies.

Shares in London at 1110 GMT up 28 pence, or 0.98%, at 2894 pence valuing the company at 37.13 billion pounds ($57.53 billion).
