The SMI stocks index in Zurich adds 0.43% to 8658.97. Novartis rises 0.43% ahead of the results presentation for an important heart drug test at a European conference on Saturday. Fellow pharma giant Roche climbs 0.22%, while Actelion, Europe's biggest biotech, adds 1.35%. Julius Baer rises 2.3% after a local blog speculated the private bank might get bought out by Credit Suisse, which adds 0.58%. UBS climbs 0.73%. Swisscom falls 0.19% even after saying Switzerland's competition authorities had blessed its acquisition of marketing firm PubliGroupe. (andrew.morse@wsj.com)
