Cablevision Systems Corp. on Thursday named media industry veteran Gordon McLeod publisher of Newsday Media Group.

Mr. McLeod will take over April 1 for Fred Groser, who said last year that he planned to retire.

Mr. McLeod, most recently the president of cloud technology company Krux, will oversee all of the group's outlets, which include the Long Island, N.Y., daily Newsday, Newsday.com, and amNewYork, among others.

"Gordon's impressive career in the media industry and his deep understanding of the evolving media business make him uniquely qualified to lead Newsday Media Group," said Brian Sweeney, Cablevision senior executive vice president of strategy, to whom Mr. McLeod will report.

McLeod worked as president of The Wall Street Journal Digital Network from 2006 to 2010. He also served as an executive for CBS News and Time Inc.
