TAIPEI -(Dow Jones)- U.S. programmable-chip provider Xilinx Inc. (XLNX) said Tuesday it selected Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (2330.TW) to produce new-generation 28-nanometer chips that will enhance three-dimensional imaging and use less electricity. Xilinx, which provides chips used in cellphone base stations, network routers, DVD players and cable modems, said in a statement the new chips will be available for sale in the second half of next year. The statement didn't disclose the shipment size and pricing. TSMC, the world's largest chip maker by revenue, started producing new-generation chips this year to strengthen its position in an increasingly competitive and mature semiconductor industry. -By Aries Poon, Dow Jones Newswires; 886-2-25022557; aries.poon@dowjones.com
