“Technology can truly help disabled individuals realize their full potential in all aspects of life – and we are keen to do our part for them to achieve this.” said Kaan Terzioglu, the CEO of Turkcell who received the award in Barcelona. “The audio description feature that was recently incorporated into ‘My Dream Companion’ app strengthens the social inclusion of the visually disabled. It fully opens the gates of the movie theaters to the users of ‘My Dream Companion’. We are proud to see that our commitment to using technology to empower our customers has inspired the industry.”

Opening the Doors of the Movie Theaters to the Visually-Disabled

The audio description feature of “My Dream Companion” is a product of the cooperation between Turkcell and Young Guru Academy (YGA), and with Turkey’s Audio Description Association SEBEDER’s support. The feature was incorporated into a mobile application for the first time in the world with this project. Movie-goers who subscribe to “My Dream Companion” can choose the “cinema” category in the app, select the movie and start listening to the sychronized audio description with their earphones.

The product was tested by Turkcell’s and Young Guru Academy’s visually-disabled employees. The feature is available free-of-charge and open to customers of all operators who subscribe to My Dream Companion.

“My Dream Companion” application was previously recognized in 2014 Global Mobile Awards following its launch. The application, which was developed by Turkcell and the Young Guru Academy, provides access to current news, more than 100 columnists’ daily columns, thousands of audio-books, training programs, magazines, indoor navigation services and practical information including weather and exchange rates.
