NASHVILLE, March 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T* has
invested more than $1.2 billion in
its best-in-class wireless and wired networks in Tennessee between 2012 and 2014, extending
access to high-speed Internet and driving a wide range of upgrades
to reliability, coverage, speed and performance for residents and
business customers.
In 2014, AT&T completed more than 700 wireless network
upgrades that expanded and enhanced wireless high-speed Internet
accessibility across Tennessee.
The upgrades – which are part of AT&T's Project Velocity IP
(VIP), an investment plan focused on network enhancement and
expansion – include activation of new cell sites, adding capacity,
and upgrading cell sites to provide high-speed 4G LTE wireless
internet access.
"AT&T is investing in high-speed internet all across
Tennessee, using the latest wired
and wireless technologies," said Joelle
Phillips, president of AT&T Tennessee. "I am proud of
the thousands of AT&T Tennessee employees who work every day to
engineer, build and maintain the infrastructure that delivers
high-speed internet access. Their work transforms millions of
dollars in AT&T investment into Tennessee broadband."
"With a growing range of connected home appliances, cars and
wearable devices, we depend more on network connectivity than ever
before," said Kristi Turner,
AT&T vice president and general manager of mobility and
consumer markets for Kentucky and
Tennessee. "AT&T's continued
investment in Tennessee brings a
host of new, innovative opportunities for residents and businesses
to connect with each other and their customers."
A few of the cities where LTE launched include: Beechgrove,
Counce, Crab Orchard, Dayton, Friendship, Hurricane Mills, Limestone, Pegram, Roan
Mountain, Soddy Daisy,
Sweetwater, Ten Mile, and Yuma.
"This type of infrastructure investment is no accident," said
Charlie Howorth – Executive
Director, Tennessee Business Roundtable. "Businesses choose to
invest in Tennessee, and employ
Tennesseans, as a direct result of pro-business policies, and we
are fortunate to have elected leaders in Nashville and in communities across the State
who understand the connection between public policy and private
sector investment."
