Explanation of Responses:
( 1)  Represents the receipt of shares of common stock for no consideration upon the vesting of restricted stock units under the Stillwater Mining Company 2012 Equity Incentive Plan due to the satisfaction of performance criteria.
( 2)  The Reporting Person previously incorrectly reported the ownership of 264,620 shares of common stock that were issuable upon the vesting of restricted stock units under the Stillwater Mining Company 2012 Equity Incentive Plan upon the satisfaction of performance criteria, 94,283 of which were subject to restricted stock units that vested on December 31, 2016 and 170,337 of which remain subject to restricted stock units that have not yet vested.
