LOS ANGELES, April 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- April is Earth
Month and Southern California Gas Co. (SoCalGas) and its employees
are teaming up with seven nonprofit groups that focus on
environmental conservation to take part in upcoming events
throughout the region. Starting this week, employees, their friends
and family will join other volunteers at parks, beaches and lagoons
throughout Southern California to
pull weeds, pick up trash, and perform other tasks. The utility has
also donated a total of $35,000 to
the groups for these events and their other efforts. The groups
include: Friends of the Los Angeles River, Arroyo Seco Foundation,
Bolsa Chica Conservancy, Friends of Ballona Wetlands, Heal the Bay,
Friends of the Desert Mountains and San Buenaventura State
Beach.
"SoCalGas shares a common goal with our nonprofit partners to
improve our environment. The work they do is very important to the
wildlife and visitors that frequent these areas. Their work is also
crucial to our children and future generations to come," said
George Minter, regional vice
president of external affairs and environmental strategy for
SoCalGas.
"As long-time partners, Friends of the Los Angeles River and
SoCalGas share a common aim," says Lewis MacAdams, founder of The
Great Los Angeles River CleanUp. "This event brings people from all
over Southern California and from
all walks of life to clean the L.A. River. People come together so
that the L.A. River can be a healthier, happier habitat for all who
use it; the two-legged, the four-legged, the flying and the
swimming ones who claim the L.A. River as one of our cities
greatest assets."
