Southern Co. (SO) reported first-quarter earnings of $368 million, or 42 cents a share, and revenue of $3.6 billion. The company said fuel retail revenue was $1.04 billion, while non-fuel retail revenue was $2.06 billion. Total retail electricity sales fell 5.1%, while total wholesale sales declined 20%. Residential electricity sales dropped 13.7%. Commercial sales dipped 3.1%, but industrial sales grew 1.9%. For the quarter, total kilowatt-hour sales fell 7.3%. On a regional basis, Alabama power revenue fell 7.9% to $1.22 billion. Georgia power fell 12.3% to $1.75 billion. (Headlines between 7:29 a.m. and 7:33 a.m. EDT misstated the figures.)
