BOSTON and WORCESTER, Mass., May
13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Worcester State University and
Santander Bank, N.A. today announced
a three-year philanthropic agreement for the Bank's Santander
Universities to support study abroad opportunities at WSU.
"Studying abroad gives students the opportunity to expand their
education beyond the classroom and learn about the history and
culture of their host countries," said Brian Azar, Santander region president for
Southern New England. "As a global bank with a local presence, we
know the importance of preparing today's students to be tomorrow's
leaders in our international economy."
The Santander Universities Scholarship program will help to
increase the number of Worcester State University students studying
abroad. The University plans to quadruple international educational
opportunities for WSU students by 2018.
"This investment in our students by Santander Universities will
continue the momentum from the past few years," said President
Maloney. "Since 2011, we have seen a 160 percent increase in
student participation in study away opportunities. These valuable
experiences broaden students' world view and better prepare them
for the 21st century workplace."
