Hyde named president of Prepaid and Wholesale Services

Dow Draper to lead new Virgin Mobile USA venture

Sprint (NYSE: S) bolstered its leadership team with wireless veteran Jim Hyde taking over the reins of the Sprint Prepaid Group. Dow Draper moves to a new role, leading the exciting new Virgin Mobile USA endeavor.

As president of Prepaid and Wholesale Services, Hyde is responsible for developing and driving the prepaid strategy and business across the Boost Mobile and Sprint Prepaid platforms and the legacy Virgin Mobile business. He will also manage the relationships with Sprint’s Wholesale and Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) customers. Previously, Hyde was CEO, president and director of nTelos Wireless, Lumos Networks and was also CEO and managing director of T-Mobile UK.

“Jim brings more than 20 years of telecommunications experience that will benefit the entire Sprint team,” said Marcelo Claure, Sprint president and CEO. “He is a visionary leader with a proven track record of successfully transforming start-ups and multibillion-dollar international companies to deliver best-in-class results. I am confident that Jim will accomplish a great deal with our prepaid brands.”

As CEO of Virgin Mobile USA, Draper will focus on the brand evolution to launch new, groundbreaking, best-in-class services to reach new market segments for Sprint. The company will share more about this brand transformation in the coming months.

Before this role, Draper was president of Sprint’s Wholesale & Prepaid Services, expanding the contract-free business with dramatic changes to keep the company’s Boost Mobile, Virgin Mobile and Sprint Prepaid brands value-driven and competitive. In late 2014, Draper added business development for Sprint Wholesale to his responsibilities, managing sales of Sprint’s leading-edge, award-winning wholesale assets to hundreds of partners worldwide.

“Dow is an inspirational leader with an extraordinary vision,” said Claure, “which makes him the perfect fit for his new role as CEO of Virgin Mobile USA. He and his team are charged with transforming the Virgin brand into a disruptive force in the wireless industry and align it more closely with the iconic global Virgin brand.”
