Rio Tinto PLC (RIO.LN), a diversified, British-Australian, multinational mining and resources group, said Wednesday it will change its NYSE ticker symbol to RIO from RTP at the commencement of trading on Oct. 12.

-Shares at 1317 GMT up 101 pence or 2.66% at 3894.5 pence.
