TEWKSBURY, Mass., April 24, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon
Company (NYSE: RTN) is partnering with the Jenoptik subsidiary
Lechmotoren, a part of the Jenoptik Defense & Civil Systems
division, to produce advanced power generators for the Patriot Air
and Missile Defense system. Under terms of this new contract,
Jenoptik will build power plants, power generators, test equipment
and spares for one of Patriot's global partners. Raytheon and
Jenoptik are also discussing opportunities to supply power
generation equipment for two additional Patriot partner nations,
including one from NATO.
"Raytheon looks forward to continuing its meaningful partnership
with Jenoptik well into the future. This effort underscores our
ongoing commitment to deepen existing, and develop new,
partnerships with German industry," said Ralph Acaba, vice president of Integrated Air
and Missile Defense at Raytheon's Integrated Defense Systems
business. "The 13-nation global Patriot network offers Jenoptik and
other industry partners access to an export market of established
users worldwide – an opportunity unique to the Patriot system."
"This order is another milestone to us in the long-term
partnership between Raytheon and Jenoptik", says Jenoptik President
and CEO Michael Mertin. "We are
convinced that we can continue to contribute to the Patriot success
story with our innovative products. Jenoptik is currently
developing a new hybrid power supply for the Patriot system, after
proving the functionality of the power supply's prototype in
March 2015."
Additionally, Raytheon continues its long standing partnership
with German industry in preparation for the TLVS program (Tactical
Air Defense System 2020). The company's offer for the TLVS program
includes the implementation with German industry of a next
generation Patriot solution, which incorporates:
- A new Common Command and Control system that offers open
architecture and flexible role based capability, which preserves
the combat-proven functionality of Patriot and builds on its
inherent NATO and European interoperability;
- Introduction of a 360-degree multi-function radar using the
latest advanced radar technology to provide unmatched performance,
unprecedented operational readiness and the lowest maintenance
cost, and;
- A robust missile mix including PAC-3 MSE and IRIS-T SL
capability that, when combined with the existing and upgraded
missile inventory (GEM & PAC-3 CRI), allows Germany to use the most effective missile
based on the threat being intercepted.
Patriot is designed with modular components allowing the system
to be continually upgraded and modernized. Today, Patriot is the
only combat-proven air and missile defense system, protecting
German, U.S. and allied forces around the world. Its 13-nation
global community, including five NATO nations and future Patriot
partners, offers benefits through system enhancement, training,
maintenance, testing, logistics and shared costs.
