KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Dec. 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Regal
Entertainment Group, a leading motion picture exhibitor owning and
operating one of the largest theatre circuits
in the United States, announces its national partnership
with myLINGO, an app that offers an audio track for select films in
Spanish for moviegoers. myLINGO has partnered with Regal to
bring together bilingual multi-generational Hispanic families to
enjoy an unprecedented movie experience.
"Growing up as first-generation Americans in a Polish speaking
house, my brother and I never went to the movies with our parents
because they had difficulty following the dialogue on screen," said
Olenka Polak, co-founder of myLINGO.
"We developed myLINGO so other families won't have the same
experience. We want to make it possible for anyone to watch a film
in the language that they are most comfortable using."
The app works by listening to the theatre audio and plays back
the full soundtrack, with the Spanish dialogue, through the
headphones, perfectly synchronized with the action on screen. The
audio track should be downloaded within the app before getting to
the theatre, and is free exclusively through the app for a limited
time.
"We are excited to expand the movie-going experience at Regal
for the ever-growing Latino moviegoing audience. They now
have the option to take their Spanish-speaking family to enjoy the
film in their language of choice," said Ken
Thewes, Chief Marketing Officer at Regal Entertainment Group
at Regal Entertainment Group. "With a wide variety of films like
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Passengers opening
this holiday season, we know multicultural families will be brought
together in an unprecedented way at Regal."
myLINGO's app uses the microphone on a viewer's smartphone
(currently available for iOS) to "listen" to a film's audio
soundtrack once the movie has begun. The app, through a proprietary
algorithm, delivers alternate language audio through the user's
headphones in perfect sync with the film. myLINGO audio tracks are
studio-sanctioned Spanish versions of the film originally developed
for international release.
About myLINGO:
Co-founders Olenka and Adam Polak created myLINGO in 2012
with the intention of sharing the magic of the movie theater with
non-English speaking viewers – a population previously isolated
from the industry by various language barriers. Inspired by their
childhood in a Polish-speaking household, where lingual differences
posed a tangible challenge, the siblings developed a mobile app for
Spanish speakers to enjoy U.S. Films at the theatre.
