Dow Jones News
LONDON--Dutch conglomerate Royal Philips N.V. (PHIA.AMS) and
Alibaba Group (BABA), China's newly-listed e-commerce giant, said
Tuesday they launched a "smart" air purifier that will let
customers mitigate the problems of air pollution in China's
megacities.
Alibaba will support Philips' air purifier with cloud computing
services to store and process data from the connected device,
allowing users to operate it in real time, as the first project
under a new agreement to collaborate on IT-infrastructure
services.
The device can send alerts to the users' mobile device when the
indoor air quality reaches unhealthy levels or when its filter
needs to be replaced.
