Charmin Relief Project Will Donate a Year’s Supply of Toilet Paper to 100 Firehouses Nationwide

Today, film and TV star, Josh Henderson, is supporting Charmin as the brand kicks off the donations phase of Charmin’s “Butts that Save Our Butts” Campaign. The program will see a year’s supply of Charmin toilet paper donated to 100 firehouses across the country as part of its Charmin Relief Project.

People were asked to help select 100 firehouses across the nation by nominating their local firehouse for the chance for it to receive a year’s supply of toilet paper. Since firehouses serve as a home away from home for many firefighters, Charmin wants to ensure these heroes have toilet paper—one of the most basic comforts of home—in their firehouses while they’re on the job saving our butts. Based on the submissions, some of the firehouses across the country that are receiving a year’s supply of Charmin include:

  • Mitchellville Volunteer Fire Department in Mitchellville, IA
  • East Limestone Fire Rescue in Athens, AL
  • Dallas Fire-Rescue Department in Dallas, TX

“My grandfather was a firefighter in Dallas so I know firsthand how hard they work to serve and protect us,” said Henderson. “They spend a lot of time in their firehouses and I am honored to be taking an active role in helping to make their home away from home more comfortable.”

Additionally, as a way to say thank you to the butts that save our butts every day, Charmin will be donating $20,000 to The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation whose mission is to provide resources to assist the survivors of America's fallen fire heroes in rebuilding their lives. Charmin will also be donating $5,000 to the Dallas Firefighters’ Memorial Fund in honor of Henderson’s late grandfather and fallen Dallas firefighters.

“The valiant and courageous commitment firefighters show each and every day is deserving of our gratitude and appreciation,” said Eric Breissinger, Vice President, North America Family Care, Procter & Gamble. “We are honored to support and celebrate firefighters by making a contribution to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and to the Dallas Firefighters’ Memorial Fund. The Charmin Relief Project hopes to bring the comforts of home to 100 fire houses across the country.”

Today’s announcement underscores the findings of a recent Charmin survey in which firefighters were polled about what their living conditions are like while they’re on the job. As nearly 59 % of those polled indicate that they do in fact consider their firehouses a second home—and that 45 % of firefighters spend a majority of their time there (between 30-50 hours a week)—it’s no surprise that toilet paper upgrades are in order. Specifically, more than half of the survey respondents confirmed that their toilet paper was subpar, rating it either “fair” or “poor”.

In addition to today’s donation announcement, Charmin will continue to donate at least 30,000 rolls to deserving firehouses: For each coupon claimed on CharminRelief.com now through April 24, 2015, Charmin will donate a roll of toilet paper to firehouses nationwide.
