International stocks trading in New York closed lower Friday.

The BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts fell 3.7%, to 115.21. The European index declined 3.5%, to 115.40; the Asian index fell 3.9%, to 124.17; the Latin American index decreased 3.7%, to 129.04; and the emerging markets index dropped 3.95%, to 192.53. China Southern Airlines Co. (ZNH, 1055.HK, 600029.SH, K3TD.SG) and Royal Dutch Shell PLC (RDSA, RDSB, RDSA.LN, RDSB.LN) were among the companies with ADRs that traded actively.

 

Alibaba Group Holding Ltd.'s (BABA) Best Logistics Technologies Ltd. has launched a $700 million fundraising ahead of a planned initial public offering, according to a disclosure statement by International Finance Corp., the World Bank's private-sector investment arm. ADRs fell 3.7%, to $69.59.

 

ADRs of BHP Billiton Ltd. (BHP, BHP.AU) fell 7%, to $20.19, on Friday, a day after the global mining giant said it would take a roughly $7.2 billion pretax charge against its U.S. onshore energy assets, as the downturn in global oil-and-gas prices bites deeper into industry profits.

 

China Southern Airlines said Friday that Chairman Si Xian Min had resigned, effective immediately. No reason was given. The airline didn't name a successor, saying instead that the vice chairman will assume the role and duties of chairman. ADRs fell 7%, to $29.83.

 

Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff said Friday that a government bailout for the country's troubled state-controlled oil company, Petroleo Brasileiro SA (PBR, PETR3.BR, PETR4.BR, can't be ruled out. Shares fell 9%, to $3.27.

 

Pakistan State Oil has dropped Royal Dutch Shell from the running to supply liquefied natural gas to Pakistan after Qatar agreed to supply it at a lower price, a London-based trading source has confirmed via email. ADRs fell 5%, to $39.15.
