Curb with Advance Booking for Taxis Coming to NYC

New Yorkers can now reserve cabs in advance
Taxis to gain another competitive edge against
ridesharing companies
Hailing and reserving a cab will bring more convenience to New
Yorkers with Curb, the national taxi-hailing app that will be the
first to introduce advance booking for traditional, licensed taxi
rides in New York. Using Curb to book a cab will be as simple as:
opening the app, setting the pick-up location, and selecting to
hail a cab for now or reserve one for later that day, tomorrow or
beyond – all with no surge pricing.
“The yellow cab, an iconic symbol of New York, is leading the
way,” said Amos Tamam, senior vice president, Global Taxi Systems
for Verifone. “Advance booking is the first of many new functions
and technologies we’re launching with the Curb app, improving
service to the public, and attracting passengers to the benefits of
traditional, licensed taxis.”
Curb currently operates in more than 60 U.S. cities, and is
being introduced in New York through an invitation-only pilot.
Pilot users will be the first to experience the app’s features in
New York City and will receive ride discounts for their
participation. Verifone will be rolling out Curb in all five
boroughs in the weeks ahead and full product launch is currently
expected to follow in April.
“Verifone’s rollout of Curb in New York City is a major step
forward in leveling the playing field between taxis and Uber by
expanding yellow and green service for all New Yorkers in all
boroughs, and ensuring consumers never get ‘surge priced.’ This is
a win-win for passengers and the taxicab industry,” said
Matthew W. Daus, Esq., former NYC Taxi & Limousine
Commissioner/Chair.
“Whether it’s an early morning flight or a late afternoon
appointment, advance booking with Curb means New Yorkers will be
assured that a taxi will be waiting for them when needed and no
longer have to cross their fingers hoping they won’t get surge
pricing,” said Tamam.
