Online job listings in June rose 3.5% from a year earlier,
reaching the highest level since October 2008, according to Monster
Worldwide Inc. (MWW).
The monthly Monster Employment Index U.S.--which measures U.S.
job demand culled from career websites and online job
listings--rose to 146 from 141 last year, and edged up from 143 in
May.
"Expansion in recruitment activity for the commerce sectors,
like retail and wholesale trade in particular, is a positive
indication of continued momentum in economic activity," said Jesse
Harriott, chief knowledge officer at Monster Worldwide.
Of the 20 industries monitored by the index, 13 showed positive
annual growth trends. The biggest losses were in the public
administration and accommodation and food services industries,
which saw declines of 21% and 10% respectively.
The top growth occupations were installation, maintenance and
repair, up 27%, followed by architecture and engineering which saw
demand rise 22%.
