LAS VEGAS, April 28, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- MGM Resorts
International (NYSE: MGM) is ranked 4th on the "Top 10
Regional Companies" list for diversity best practices, according to
DiversityInc, one of the nation's leading sources on workplace
diversity management.
2015 marks the tenth consecutive
year MGM Resorts has been recognized for its Diversity and
Inclusion Initiative by DiversityInc, which ranks companies based
on the results of an annual survey.
"Companies are recognizing the importance of diversity for
corporate reputation - which directly affects millennial-generation
recruiting and retention. And whether you're talking about
Silicon Valley, Ferguson, or Indiana, there's no denying that stories about
how far we still need to come regarding diversity have been
dominating the headlines in 2015," said DiversityInc Founder and
CEO Luke Visconti.
DiversityInc's 300-question annual survey is divided into four
equally weighted areas: CEO Commitment, Talent Pipeline, Equitable
Talent Development, and Supplier Diversity. The survey's results
are determined by statistical analysis and each company is vetted
by DiversityInc staff. Of the 1,215 companies participating in this
year's survey, MGM Resorts is the only Nevada-based company and the only integrated
resort company to earn an award of distinction.
"We are proud that our Diversity initiative has received
recognition from DiversityInc for the past 10 consecutive years,"
said Phyllis A. James, Executive
Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer of MGM Resorts
International. "It shows that not only has top management embraced
diversity and inclusion as a business and moral imperative, our
62,000 employees have made it the cornerstone of our daily
operations."
The MGM Resorts Diversity and Inclusion Initiative was
voluntarily launched in 2000 – the first in the entertainment,
gaming and hospitality industry – and is a critical pillar of the
company's enterprise-wide social responsibility platform that
includes environmental sustainability and community engagement
programs. Highlights from the Diversity and Inclusion Initiative
include:
- Approximately 64 percent of the company's 62,000 employees are
minorities. In the management ranks, about 43 percent of
employees in the supervisory ranks are women, and 38 percent of
employees in the supervisory ranks are minorities.
- Through its diversity sales efforts in 2014, MGM Resorts
International contracted several notable diverse convention groups,
including NAACP, National Centers for American Indian Enterprise
Council and Japanese American Citizens League. Since introducing
the Diversity initiative in 2000, the company has attracted guests
and customers who share its values related to diversity and
inclusion while maintaining a visible role in the diversity
meetings market.
- The MGM Resorts Foundation is hosting its ninth annual Women's
Leadership Conference at MGM Grand in July. Presented to a sold-out
audience of more than 900 women last year, the two-day conference
will feature nationally recognized speakers, forums for small-group
dialogue and networking opportunities.
- Since introducing its Supplier Diversity Program in 2001, MGM
Resorts has spent hundreds of millions of dollars with women-owned
suppliers. In 2014, MGM Resorts spent a total of $128 million on goods and services purchased
through minority, women and diverse-owned businesses. The program
is part of a larger company diversity initiative that has been
recognized by leading diversity publications including
DiversityInc, Black Enterprise and HispanicBusiness.
